TOMARATA - TE ĀRAI
PREDATOR CONTROL ZONE
Home of ngā roto - the Te Ārai lakes, this area contains a diverse variety of endangered wetland ecosystem types, and species such as the Critically Endangered matuku hūrepo
(Australasian bittern).
Other wildlife of note include mātātā (fernbird), pūweto (spotless crake), kākāhi (freshwater mussel), and one of the few remaining populations of black mudfish. Predator control here will also help protect wildlife along the Te Ārai coast.
